Would it be appropriate to enter a braggot in a beer contest in the beer base style of the braggot? Or would it not be acceptable?

ie if you brewed a sweet stout Braggot, or an Russian Imperial Stout Braggot and used honey for 1/2 of the fermentables could you technically enter the braggot as a sweet stout or a RIS??

Since the grading is compared to style guidelines, I would say you're fine as long as the style of the braggot is in keeping with the base beer style. You could enter it either way (it's not like they measure %ABV or screen entries by recipe), but if the honey/wine yeast have changed the beer too much, you won't get as many points.

How about the "specialty ale" category?
 
I used an ale yeast for the stout and 50% fermentables came from the malt and 50% from honey. I think I will have one of the brew club folks try it and let me know his thoughts. Regardless I plan to enter it as a braggot. Just wondering about entering it as the base beer.

my point was that ale yeast makes an ale an ale, lager yeast makes a lager a lager, so if u made a braggot with wine yeast it would be a braggot, not really an ale. but if you used ale yeast and its got half and half then it could go either way?
 
A sweet stout would/should contain lactose, a sugar unfermentable by typical brewers/winemakers yeast. This is what leaves the residual sugar, to make it sweet.
