Sounds very little different than making kombucha or kefir, and keeping the mother or grains from one batch to the next. Just need to develop a protocol for the home mead maker (whose production rate and resources are not always going to be a constant) to keep the mother - or whatever you call it in this case - happy and healthy during longer lags between batches.

I have not made any progress on continuous fermentation. What got me stuck was yeast type and equipment. If anyone has any ideas or plans please post.

Kansas, I have found and acquired pumps rated at 3 liters per hour. I plan to start a test soon. Not related to continous fermentation, but continous degassing and circulation (the stir plate thing made simpler). I will post a new thread when I get going.

Cool! I have read a few posts about using a pump to degas. How big of a test are you planning? Also could you post a link to the pump? Good luck!

Tile saws "wet saw" has submersible pumps that push water and are adjustable. You could put one of those in the bottom of your bucket and set it on low. I would keep everything in motion for the duration. I think the small ones are 30-40 dollars at Home Depot. I think I might go buy one and run it in some water first to see if it adds flavor. I will run it in some star san first.

Kansas, maybe in the next few weeks. I will post a link to the pump I am using in the new thread, as well as instructions on how I build the whole apparatus. I will be doing a 6 gal batch in a 6.5 gal PET BigMouth Bubbler I got for the specific purpose so I could watch as things progressed.
