The OC
Well, here's one I'm lukewarm on.

EU is kicking around some ideas on "genericizing" labels throughout the continent to make it "less confusing" for consumers who want to buy their wine. Problem is the Controlled Appellations actually are directly linked to wine flavor, color, taste and overall character. The AOC (Appellation Controlle d'Origin) actually is a very well thought out method of ensuring consistant quality and production methods in wine. Production is actually controlled by law as are the type and amount of grapes used in the winemaking process. I personally don't like the idea of a generic Burgundy wine with no Controlled Appellation. You don't know what you're going to get, and it makes it easier for lower-quality wines to be passed off as "Burgundy" etc. etc. etc. I'm just referring to the Burgundy wines of France here, but there are controlled appellations in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, etc. that would all be affected. I don't like the idea of buying a wine "knowing" what it will taste like and then finding out that it is a low quality knock off that isn't made to the discerning spec of appellation it bears. That just sucks in my opinion.

Here's the story.

Cheers,

Oskaar

Seems to me that would confubscate market.

It might be to the advantage of producers of stuff like 2 buck chuck, yet it would be a disservice to the consumer.
