Ginger tea is good for nausea which, unfortunately or fortunately, is a huge deal for me.

I'm wanting to try my hand at real ginger beer brewing. I've got recipes for making "ginger bugs" from powdered ginger but I'm always experimenting.

I found some internet references to a thing called a ginger beer plant. The way the descriptions read, it's really a rice-like combination of yeast & lactobacillus in a reusable form.

But...there does not appear to be a way to acquire this thing!

I'm wondering if it's real? Is there a way to obtain said thing? Is it in the category of other fungi not appropriate to consume?

Edit: I've emailed some of the people from these websites and gotten no answer.

I've heard of it, and definitely am curious. Here's where I read about it; there is a link to where he got the culture (in case you haven't found it already).

What an interesting blog. Imma go through the whole thing.

The site where the author got his GBP is one that I emailed and got no response. When you hit the "home" button you get "site down for maintenance". It's had that messg for several weeks.

I'll email them again to see if I get anything this time. If they're in business then HOT DAMN and I'm ready to trade with them. I hope they are. I'd love some piima culture as well as the GBP.

Thanks akueck!

Ok, followed some of the links here and there, and more there, and joined a Yahoo! GBP group--who'da thunk it?

I'll post if I'm able to get a GBP.
