This is a recipe I found on another board and I figured that folks here might want to give it a try. It is on my "to do" list as of now.
"Recipe for Kahlua

This is a simple recipe for Kahlua out of the Reidsville Jr. (the wanna bees - if you know what I mean, small town talk) Service League cook book. I would like someone to refigure it using fresh made ground coffee instead of instant and push the batch up to several gallons, maybe even 5 gallons. It is really good. Here goes:
4 c. sugar
2 c. boiling water
2 oz. instant (not freeze dried) coffee
1 vanilla bean spit and quartered
1 pt. of 100 proof vodka
Thoroughly dissolve sugar and coffee in water. Add vodka and vanilla bean. Put in jug and hide for 30 days. Strain out vanilla bean, and bottle. "
I plan on using Everclear (finally found some) and I think it will be like Kahlua on steroids.

Ted

That does look good, I've been wanting to make a Kahlua for some time. It's definitely on my to-do list.

I haven't tryed this recipe yet...I did however try the Loki and the Apple pie recipes found on this forum(courtesy of Vicky). They're awsome!!
I have to wait for www.bevmo.com to get more everclear before I can make more, my 1 gal batches went faster than a pizza at a weight watcher's convention :'(
The Strega ( courtesy of Mynx) is "cooking" as we speak.
The lemon stuff in next.
Let us Know how it goes,
Ted

Here's an untested Kahlua recipe from my mother.

(And glad to hear the Strega's going well Ted...one week to tasty is a beautiful thing)

Ingredients:
1 pint vodka
1 pint brandy
4 c sugar
¼ c instant coffee
3 c water
1 vanilla bean
Directions:
Heat sugar, water and coffee to boil. After sugar dissolves, cool to room temperature and add vodka and brandy. Add vanilla bean. Put in clean bottle and date. Age for 30 days, shaking daily. Age longer to make it stronger.
