So I first read about these guys in the article someone put on here. They are based out of Londonderry, NH. I drove down to their meadery to join in on a mead tasting, and my. God.

They have some tasty mead (not to mention a rather wide variety). They have several metheglins, a bunch of melomels, a few straight traditionals, and even few capsicumels, ranging from dry to sweet.

They all were excellent. I've got nothing bad to say about them, and I'm too new to the mead world to professionally describe them. But they were definitely unique. I would definitely say you guys should check out this one.

Aside from the mead itself, the owner, Michael, and Joe were both very friendly and helpful, and they even gave me a gift certificate because the supermarket I originally went to for a mead tasting screwed up their tasting times. When I called the meadery up to confirm the time, they told me I had the time right, but the tasting marketing co. made a mistake, so if I drove to their meadery they'd make it worth my while.

And they did.:blob1:

Wow, isn't that nice of them! Glad to hear there are still some pleasant businesses around (not that I'd expect a meadery to be anything but!).

My stepdad's from Londonderry (My mom says she imported him from New Hamster), I should get him and my mom to stop by there next time they're back visiting, taste some stuff and bring back a bottle of something they liked so I know more about what to make for them!

New Hamster, lol...

yea, you should definitely have them do so.

I ended up taking home their Fury (capsicumel with 3 chiles) and Wicked (metheglin with ginger and vanilla) bottles. I also enjoyed their black currant and rhubarb melomel, but I forget the name of that one...

EDIT: I actually enjoyed all of them, but those really stood out to me. Says more about my tastes than it does their make, tho.

Black currant and rhubarb mead. This sounds good. I've been looking for something to do with rhubarb.

Oh no, another additon to the "To Make" list.

I wasn't real impressed with the last fermented rhubarb product I made, I will give it one or two more chances before I just make rhubarb crisp instead :) Maybe a rhubarb JAO variation...

I like rhubarb. I've got a plant that just naturally grows just off my porch, and I'll make strawberry rhubarb pie... mmm....

I bet a strawberry rhubarb mead would be pretty good as a dessert drink... keep it semi-sweet.

I live right in the area, probably 20 minutes away from Moonlight at the moment. Used to live 5 minutes down the road. First I saw of them, they were selling bottles at our local farmers market, and I've been hooked ever since. I've tried almost every bottle they've made available, though I can't remember the specific tastes of every one. I actually have 2 or 3 bottles sitting at home right now. Kurts Apple Pie is my current favorite flavor of theirs.

But long story short if anyone comes to the area to see Moonlight, let me know, I'd love to meet up.

Michael (Fairbrother) is definitely one of the "good guys" of the industry. He started as a passionate home brewer, and he even used to log onto Gotmead from time to time until the meadery got so busy that he's got very little free time left. I encourage everyone within his distribution area to try his meads; they are superb, and you'll be supporting a worthy enterprise!

Flame is their black currant/rhubarb offering... nice, tangy, complex... my kind of mead... ;D

I still have a few dollars left on my certificate, so I should be heading down there relatively soon. I'll let you know when I do.

Flame! That's what it was... mmm...

Also, you could tell his passion when he talked about it during the tour. I can't wait to try their Sam Adam's Utopian Cask mead. Should be ready in a few years...

Got to try some of the Kurt's Apple Pie : Honey/Apple Wine

Was spiced enough that it was hard to taste anything but the spices. Nice bit of sweetness left, no big alcohol taste, just wish the spice level was a bit lower.

I have tried Wicked, Sensual, and Kurt Apple Pie. I did not enjoy the Wicked there was ataste I did not like but for some reason I fell like there might have been something wrong and plan I trying it again. The other 2 where great. I have seen their Utopia mead in a local liquor store and might pick up a bottle, but have read some reviews on it that were not great and am unsure I want to spend $50 on a 375 ml bottle.

Michale judged my oaked cherry melomel at Mazer Cup this year and his parting comment was "don't change a thing!"

Now that's awesome to get feedback like that from a professional mazer!

My fiancé and I went to a tour and tasting there where we did get to try the utopian. If you like the bourbon aged beers and the like, you probably won't be disappointed with the purchase, until its gone that is. We must have tried at least ten or so of their meads. Our favorite was red dress which a red current melomel, tart, and very delicious. I also picked up mischief which is a black raspberry. We also liked their traditional mead with tupelo honey.

I've only tried "Wicked" and it had some really off tastes which I didnt like. The bottle was heavily carbonated too which I'm not sure if it was supposed to be or not.

That said, being only an hour or so away from me I've wanted to visit. Just a week ago there was a local cupon to pre-buy tickets for a tour and tasting at buy one get one free, so I've got tickets to go visit already which I have to use in the next 2 months

I finally found the best moonlight Meadery these unique wines are made from honey, water and yeast; some also have fruit or spice added. Bold, uncompromising and unique, Moonlight Meadery has exploded into the wine scene with a fresh, innovative product.

Moonlight is the reason we decided to try making our meads.
The tour was superb, all the tastings were fabulous.
Great folks down there...
Hope to go back again soon and do some more tasting.
