The other thread in this section was from March 2004 but it got me thinking about where I go around here for mead on tap.

There are only three places that I can think of, and I don't know if any of them still have mead on tap, but if they do, I'll make sure to update this link in the next couple of weeks.

Here they are:

Hero's Bar and Grill - Fullerton, CA: 116 handles (112 different beers) on tap. Used to have Mead, hard cider and widmers Pear, Apple, etc. on tap.

Henry-n-Harry's Goat Hill Tavern - Costa Mesa, CA: about 170 handles (about 120 different beers) a dive, but a pleasant dive! Mead, hard cider

The Yard House - Cost Mesa, CA: 200 taps (175 different beers) corporate America style haute-couteur bar and restaurant. Mead, hard cider, wines and martinis.

I'll check and see if they still carry meads on tap. Sounds like a pub-crawl in the offing. . . It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it!

Well I wish there was some kind of online resource for this. This would be a great resource if you were in my area, but even though I'm in CA, I'm not going that far South anytime soon. :(

Here's a link to the beer advocate.

It will have breweries and brew-pubs, on premise microbrewpubs, etc. around your area. I know in Mountain View there is a great place called the Tied House (I don't think they have any mead but they had an excellent Raspberry Wheat Beer last time I was there),

You can look your area up, and see if there are any places that might carry mead on tap, and then call them.

Dogglebe! Where ya been?

Off to London to visit the Queen--oh, wait. That's the ladybug....

I've recently switched over to all-grain brewing and am apprenticing at a brewery in New Jersey. This has been taking away from my mead time.

BTW, all grain brewing sucks!

Anyway, I'm coming back and want to get atleast four more batches of mead in the fermenters before the end of the year.

Hey now!

Don't bash on all grain brewing.

Just remember all grain brewing is a gateway hobby that leads to meadmaking.

Concentrate now, slow deep breaths, a sip of mead . . . ahhh life is good.

LOL. I started all grain brewing and progressed to meadmaking because it was tough to find help from friends. They were more than willing to drink the porters and ales, but they were loathe to help. Meadmaking was much more fun, and the girls liked it, so we ended up making a party out of it whenever we brew around here.

Good luck in your apprenticeship!

As what is often said by artists and musicians alike: Simplicity is genious.

hey cp - we seem to travel in the same cricles! i live in the southern indiana area and rich-o's/sportstime/nabc has the best food and beer in all of new albany by a great margin.

I just went to Richo's recently and their beers blow all of the other local brews out of the water and even if they didn't serve beer you get a good deal of food for your money. Do you know of any other places I should look into?

Have you ever been to any of those FOSSIL meetings? (Fermenters of Special Southern Indiana Libations Society)
http://www.fossils.org/
I am intrigued, but I haven't any idea what they do.

As you have said, I've been curious about FOSSILS but know nothing really. Rich-O's does have yet another benefit: call ahead and have them set thier used beer & wine bottles aside for you. Can't beat the price of: Free. I've had other places give excuses ranging from sanitation concerns all the way to the legality of "open containers" leaving the premises. Sometimes you wish that they would just say "Sorry, but no." :)

As far as good local places to go for beer, this link is a start:
http://www.fossils.org/GBGTK.htm

Now, quality beer may imply quality mead?

I need to investigate the local area further myself.

Hey Oskaar,
Any updates on the bars/pubs catoring to the mead crowd?
If you need help, let me know! I wanted to learn about beer brewing, and what better teacher?

Ted

Really in Orange County the closest thing we have to that is Hero's. They don't serve mead, but, they have some hard ciders and lemonades on tap that are decent. They also have somewhere around 130 beers on tap now so it's a complete riot. It's a kick to go in there because the food is great, and the beer is too!

Cheers,

Oskaar

Here is a place right outside of Philadelphia, PA that brews and serves mead. They currently (Feb. '06) have a Raspberry Mead-Ale on tap. Below is the discription from their website.

Raspberry Mead-Ale
Brewed to emulate the Honey Meads of the ancient Celts. 80 pounds of whole raspberries
are used in each batch of this newly reformulated brew. Triple fermentation adds to
the complexity and subtleties of this tasty, but unusual beverage.
9.6% ABV, 9 IBU
$6.00, served by the wine glass only

Beer Advocate has listed that this brew pub has offered in the past a Braggot, but from the last posted review, this was April '04.

Another Mead on tap sighting!

Speaking of Philadelphia, I went to Harrisburg this past summer on vacation and found a fantastic little micro brewery called the "Appalachian Brewing Company" on 50 North Cameron St. They had a Small Mead on tap. This was my fist taste of mead made with an Ale yeast. Excellant. I have since made one batch using wildflower honey (which came out very good) and have just finished fermenting a batch using orange blosom. It's a nice light hot sumer day thurst quncher.
