This 37.5 cl bottle was purchased at a Kaas & wijn store in Emmeloord today for 6 euros. The bottle indicates it is 12% ABV. The label says it was made from 2 Mediterranean grape species and enhanced with Dutch Linden honey, organic herbs and spices. Color is very pale transparent yellow and is as thin as "regular" wine. pH 3.5 and SG 1.052 Herbs listed on the back label included cilantro, vanilla, cloves, cinnamon, anise, cocoa, hyssop, thyme, sweet orange and licorice. Nose has a faint smell of honey, but not much of that. No legs at all. Spicey foretaste with cloves predominating, but seems to go rather flat in midtaste. After taste gives a tingle of spiciness and orange with fresh floral sweetness overtones.

Overall, a fairly good effort, but not a prizewinner.

Well at least you can get some at the local(ish) store sometimes. I am having to special order just regular meads and it is. And will hopefully have a couple samples from a distributor. I am also going to spend, spend, spend, on a bottle of barrel aged solara mead, and a rhodomel... So hopefully I will have a wider variety of samplings to start really comparing my meads against, and maybe get an idea or twenty for my HoneyBrew List...

Thanks for posting about meads from other areas, it's always a good thing to hear about other styles and ingredients! Makes me realize just how much there is to learn!!! Oy Vey!!!

Yeah...if you go to !read in wikedia, and then look at varieties and variants, and we the Ethiopian mead, and polish, and other stuff....big world out there

Sent from the Nexus of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which has been infected with Vogon poetry, some of which leaked out here.

May be a big world out there, but my little corner of it is pretty hard to find a distributor willing to do under 2 cases at a time! I mean REALLY!! I like to drink and all, but 24 bottles at a time just to taste!!! I'll have the best tasting party in town, 24 bottles, by 6 brands with an average of 3 types is 432 bottles of mead to sample :o . I might have to wait on that until I win the lottery.

But I have added to my "To Sample" list a Rhodomel, and a Solara from one of our local meaderies. Can't wait to get them in, although at $35ish for the Solara, I will be savoring that by the drop!!!

Well, we have Veronica over here, and NL4.... no NBC. We DO have "History" channel, with shows about pawn shops, motorcycles, and other stupid stuff, with the occasional historical documentary thrown in. Then there's that other channel, with Swamp People, Hillbilly hand fishing, mountain idiots, Moonshiners, and Lunatic Goof Balls....

Just dropped the car off. Tomorrow at 2ish pm eastern time. I'm shitting bricks.

No that's a 63 corvette. It sold! Now the brewing begins in earnest. First the garage will become THE TARDIS. Then all the cooling and fermenting vessels will be added. Then, of course, the bar. The only thing missing is Amy Pond.

You may have been sucked in a bit, but I am now more inclined than ever to propagate a gallon of metheglin. The list of ingredients, besides tasty on their own, are all in my larder already, or I can get them readily at the local health food store... The only ones I don't have on hand are the Hyssop, and the Linde honey. The Hyssop I can get. But Linde honey is from South Africa apparently... ???

Sounds tasty, but expensive to transport!!! I am just a pauvre little mini mead maker after all.........

And that SS fermentor is just pure porn!!! I mean is that even legal to post such things?? ? ?? PORN I tell you, PORN!!! !! !!
