That would be rather a lot of driving for a meal :) And I'd need enough warning to clear off the mead counter so you can have free run through the wine cellar... there would need to be a lot of Chateau Chevette to repay a favour like that! I'll talk to the hubby...
 
Oh, and in other news, Psychopomp23 studies Kendo and hangs out with the crowd I know from Iaido, we hope to run into each other at a mutual friend's party this summer if we can't swing it before that!

seriously thinking about that passport thing today, it was -33C this morning at work... but I'll have to come up with some way to rent a car and have it covered under insurance that doesn't cost me more than the rental, my insurance agent laughed at me when I asked if I could get comprehensive with the Beast...

It's 30°C in the POSITIVE here today.
Come on down, I have a spare car with full comprehensive insurance. I'll just ask you to pay the ridiculous $1.50 per litre of fuel you use ;-)

You could probably organise a stop-over to see Kuri on the way...
 
Jesus...that's -27 degrees F! Holy F!

It was was 84F (29C) here today on the beach... brrrrrrr Winter sure is hitting hard.

B. A Prius gets astounding mileage in the summer
C. Get a Passport. And one for the Hubby.

You might make the Americans' eyes bulge at that, but I'm already paying $1.30 per litre most of the time here (that's almost $5/gallon) and I think we did have it as high as $1.50 a few years ago when things got really crazy...

I've already suggested it. Apparently for a little bit extra you can get one that's good for ten years.

Will a large man fit in a Prius? He can't even sit up straight in my mom's CRV...

I can't guarantee it, but I'm 6'2" and fit pretty well in one, at least in the front seat. Living in Japan that was a real challenge when looking for a car. I found many that I fit in, but in some of them (can't tell you whether this included the Prius since they didn't have any used ones to sell) it would be impossible for anyone over the age of 1 to sit behind me. Surprisingly, the Honda Civic was one that I could drive with the seat all the way back and still have an adult behind me without their being too uncomfortable, and most higher end models weren't like that.

How long did it take to get used to being head and shoulders above the crowd? I can't wait to go the Japan. Absolutely love the food, culture, design and the people! Maybe in 2015!

My hubby's really long in the body, his head's 8" higher than mine when we sit even though he's only 6" taller when we stand... even in most full-sized cars, he has to skootch down or his head hits the headliner. Maybe a Smart car would work, they're very tall... but I don't know anyone with one anymore :p He seriously looks like a circus bear getting in and out of a VW Beetle when he's folding himself up into my Chevette :) The last Civic we were in was an early 90's model so they may have changed since then, but he got leg cramps from driving it longer than an hour and the seats were so close together we kept elbowing each other all trip (he's wide too)... The Prius experiment should be entertaining... he's not terribly cramped in a Corolla, at least.

I'm told that for a litttle extra, we can get a 10 year passport... my parents in-law were telling us they were being optimistic, getting the 10 year ones when they're both in their 70's ;D

Just a year or two, though it took a few years longer to stop hitting my head on low doorways. Train doors were particularly dangerous since they're about 2 inches too low for my head. Now I feel like I'm close to the average height of everyone else here, and also like I've entered the land of the giants whenever I go back to the states. It's amazing how your perception can change over time.

CG, I can't vouch for the width of the Prius -- I don't know anyone in Japan with width problems, but that's because people in general are so thin here. (I feel like about the average there too, though I'm clearly well beyond that at close to 200 pounds.) Also I wouldn't be at all surprised if US / Canadian models are different from Japanese models with the same name because of the difference in sizes of the general population.

A. Definitely go for the 10 year passport!
B. I hadn't looked at the map before making the offer...a round trip Ottawa to Ferndale DOES rather seem like it would be a big deal...but I'm still seriously considering it...entertaining the logistics...
 
Heck just leave enough time for an extended bottling/sampling/recovery from said sampling and then head out!

Any long weekend together with one day off from work should do just fine.

Well, well folks, I see you don´t hear much of Bob Dylan...

He recommends Portugal , where :

" ...I like to spend sometime in...", and "... the sunny sky is aqua blue...".

Nothing of cold weather or extreme hot. Nice clima, good and unexpensive food and Porto wine, plenty of history and wonderful landscapes.
 
Baby steps here... I've never been out of Canada even on wheels, I'm pretty sure for me, visiting Portugal involves air travel of some sort :) Maybe someday. But I still have half of Canada to see, I've only been to the East coast.
 
I need a new list, I already completed my last one... horse, car, house, husband, see Iron Maiden in concert, see Alice Cooper up close... but passport and new bucket list are going to have to wait until I get a few health issues resolved... my body apparently hates me again. >:(
